2007 Corona Rally México
This weekend we are ready for the season 4th event in hot and sunny Mexico. The rally is based in the middle of Mexico in the city of Leon, the 5th largest city in Mexico. Mexico has 101 million inhabitants and 1,2 millions of these lives in Leon. Leon is about 400k’s north of Mexico City, in the state of Guanajuanto.
The servicepark is indoors at the Poliforum Expo Centre, and the stages are being run in the mountain ranges of Sierra de Lobos and Sierra de Guanajuato, with peaks that stretches to 2700 metres above sea level. The stages are relatively fast, but tricky. It changes from fast to slow in a way that makes it hard for the drivers to find the rhythm. The high altitude also makes the engine struggle to breath in the thin air, and this will reduce the speed compared to events on lower altitudes.
The drivers has to tackle 366k’s of special stages and 484k’s of liaison through the rally, a total of 850k’s that makes this rally one of the most compact event for the season. Rally Norway had 356k’s of special stages and 754k’s of liaison. According to FIA’s regulations a rally must have at least 350k’s of special stage.
Petter has a good history and this event, with the win in 2005. Sebastien Loeb won in 2006, with Petter and Phil holding 2nd position.
