Meeting with Petter in Germany
Hans Van Gils, a belgium member of PSSC, got to meet with Petter during Rally Germany. Read his report.
A dream came true
On Thursday our adventure started around 07.30h when we left for the shakedown of Rally of Germany. An adventure indeed, because yesterday I received the message that I could meet Petter in his hotel at 18h. After a sleepless night, the day couldnt pass fast enough. After the shakedown we went to the Service Park in Trier where we saw all the WRC rally cars. Around 17h30 I was already waiting in front of the hotel while I could barely keep my nerves under controll. I couldnt wait to go inside. In my head I practised a 1000 times all the questions I was going to ask. We entered the hotel at 17h45 where we ran into Petters co-driver Phill Mills. After a little chat I asked if Petter was also coming to the lobby. Petters personal trainer who had also joined us, phoned to check if Petter was on the way and he confirmed that we would meet him around 18h30. While we were standing in the lobby a photographer was taking pictures of all the SWRT pilotes. It also was a perfect opportunity for us to take pictures of all the other drivers. After the shoot was finished Petter walked towards me. I cant describe what a amazing feeling that was for me. We started talking about the ERC Rally cross meeting in Momarken that Petter attended in July. I am a big fan of Rally cross and I understood that Petter still follows the sport, so it wasnt so hard to keep the conversation going. We also talked about the Subaru. Apparently the car is very good on asphalt. At the end I wished him a very good rally from myself and from Noomi who helped me to realise this dream. After we left the hotel we went to the start of the Rally in Trier. On friday we went to serveral stages. This will be a weekend Ill never forget.

We can understand you what afeeling it is to meet Petter.
We has meet Petter and some team members into 2005.And we talking about that manny time’s we never forget that also.

It was magic or not?
Yes, it was magic and I haven´t words to describe each moment that I could spent with him during the rally time here.
It is always a fantastic moment that is impossible to describe and that I will keep into my heart for the rest of my life.
He is marvelously different to all the people. He has a magic at surrounds it and his image made me erased all the speeches that during a lot of time I could study for say him in these moment.
Petter Solberg is a very special boy and wakes up many good feeling in his fans towards him….he is the ONE!

Great story, Hans. We were there and we saw how much you enjoyed the meeting with Petter. It took a while, but it certainly was worth waiting for! I don’t think there is anyone who is a bigger fan of Petter. I must say that Petter is one of the top drivers who respect their fans and know there is more to rallying than just flying over the stages. Quite a difference with some other stars…
