Spain and Corsica coming up

Petter Solberg, Corsica 2006, photo by swrt

After a short break the WRC are now ready for two tarmac-events; Rally Spain will be run 5. – 7. October, and then straight over to Corsica and Tour de Corse 12. – 14. October. Spain is the fastest event on tarmac in the WRC, while Corsica is known as the rally with 10.000 corners. Weather could be a challenge for both events. All though both headquarters are placed beautifully by the Mediterranean, the stages will be run up in the mountains, and autumn-showers could be lurking behind the next corner.

On the entry list for Spain we find 84 contesters, and for Corsica there are 82. The drivers standings shows that Marcus Grønholm is in the lead with 90 pts, and Sebastien Loeb is 2nd with 80 pts. Miko Hirvonen is in 3rd with 69 pts, and Petter is sharing the 4th place with Sordo. They both have 31 pts. Henning is 6th with 28 pts.

Most of the drivers and team will also have the tragic death of Rally-legend Colin McRae in their mind when starting the rallies. We are sure that they all will be doing some thinking about life and death when they get behind the wheel and starts the recce in Spain.

Colin McRae 1968 – 2007

Petter and Colin

It was terrible to be given the news that my good friend Colin and his 5 year-old son Johnny, died in a helicopter-crash Saturday evening. Colin was one of my closest friends and it is thanks to him I have achieved so much in rallying.

Colin’s passion for motorsport made him the most popular driver in the world, and it is unbelievable that he is no longer among us. I am so glad I got to know Colin.

Pernilla and I send our deepest condolences to his wife Alison and their daughter Hollie. Our thoughts are also with the families of Ben Porcelli and Graeme Duncan, who also died in this terrible accident.

If you feel like writing something here for Colin and his family, I will pass on all of yours condolences to Colin’s family.
