Race of Champions

This weekend Wembley Stadium in London was turned into a motorsport-arena, for the Race of Champions. Finally Petter got the chance to attend, and together with his brother Henning he was defending the Norwegian flag in the nation’s cup. They beat France in the quarter-final but Finland were too strong in the semi-final, Marcus Grønholm and Heikki Kovalainen made it to the final were they met the German team. Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel won the nations cup.

Race of Champions is not only a fight between the nations, but also a chance for the best drivers to decide who is the champion of the champions. With identical cars under the same conditions they are competing until the grand finale decides who the champion is. Mattias Ekstrøm from Sweden won the final in 2006 and was crowned with the title Champion of the champions. Petter raced with David Coulthard in the 1/8 final and Henning towards Michael Schumacher. Unfortunately they didn’t make it to the quarterfinal. In the final heat Michael Schumacher was racing towards Mattias Ekstrøm – and the Race of Champions were won by Mattias Ekstrøm.

Wales Rally GB – Leg 2

Petter Solberg, Wales Rally GB, photo by SWRT

Petter is still 4th when a struggling and challenging day 2 of the 75th Wales Rally GB is completed. Mikko Hirvonen is still in the lead, with Grønholm and Loeb right behind. Petter suffered a spin on the first stage of the day, but managed to get back in track without loosing too much time. Going to the midday service he scared us again, when the car refused to start when they were leaving the timecontrol. The car had to be pushed into the servicearea, and the mechanics fixed the problem.

A fantastic stage inside the Millenium Stadium made a good ending of the day, and Petter fulfilled it with a “donut” after the finish line. Grønholm set the fastest time on the stage, while Latvala managed to set the fastest time on every other stage for the day. Both Latvala and Henning have been competing under SupeRally regulations today, as they were having problems with visibility on the stages Friday evening. Andreas Mikkelsen went off the road on SS9 and had to retire.

Overall classification Leg 2 Wales Rally GB
