Itinerary – Rally Finland

After a long summer-break, we are now heading to Finland and the 9th round of the 2008-season. Rally Finland is based in the city of Jyväskylä, 280kms north-east of Helsinki. 24 stages are waiting for the drivers, and the super-special Killeri kicks it off on Thursday evening.

Rally Finland is known for its high speed and famous jumps. Ouninpohja were the speed and Ruuhimäki is the jumping stage. Ouninpohja is totally new this year, renamed Kakaristo and driven in the opposite direction. There are still some fast sections early and midways in to the stage, but for the last 5kms the road narrows and is covered with a lot of loose gravel. Ruuhimäki is the same, but the threes are gone from the junction 1,5kms into the stage, and the naked landscape could make it harder for the drivers to find the best breaking-point. At the finish, the extra loop driven on a small road to bring down the average speed is gone, and we are now talking really high speed finish.

Petter and Phil arrived Jyväskylä Sunday evening, directly from testing in Germany, and will start recce Tuesday morning.
