2nd in Rally of Turkey

- This is just unbelievable! I mean, 2nd in Turkey is one thing, but we are also 2nd in the championship now, says Petter Solberg. – It is so great to know that we actually can be up there fighting for wins, and make it! I have not been flat out all weekend, but backed off some places just to be on the safe side, and I’m really looking forward to New Zealand now.

Petter Solberg and Phil Mills took their third podium in a row today, with their 2nd in Rally of Turkey. And they also took a big climb in the championship, and is now 2nd. Sebastien Loeb won the rally and Mikko Hirvonen ended third.

Petter was second when they started this morning, and there were quite a bit excitement in the air at the Petter Solberg World Rally Team. The two first stages of the day were cancelled, and a puncture on the third one didn’t exactly help on the pressure. They also hit a three on the next stage, but manage to pull it off and secured another podium.

Next event is Rally New Zealand, 7 – 9 May.

Petter is 2nd day 2 in Turkey

- I’m so happy about the day and the rally so far, says Petter Solberg. – I’m not going flat out all the time, these stages are so rough on the car that I need to back off a little. We are a small private team, with limited resources so I need to be careful. Had a puncture 7km before the finish on SS16 today and that probably cost me some time, other than that everything has been perfect. And it is so great to actually be fighting in the lead with the big manufacturer teams.

The second day here in Turkey is completed, with Petter and Phil second. 8 stages have been competed today, and Petter and Phil have been fastest through two of them and second fastest through two other. Sebastien Loeb is leading the rally, while Mikko Hirvonen is third. The overnight leader from Friday, Sebastien Ogier, has really been on the pace today, but a puncture and stop on SS15 dropped him down to fifth. Latvala rolled on the first stage of today, damaged the car, and lost a lot of time on the first loop of stages.

Rally of Turkey continues Sunday with 114km and 6 stages. First car is on the road from 0910 (local time).

Overall classification day 2 Rally of Turkey
1. Loeb, Citroën
2. Petter, Citroën +16,2

4. Sordo, Citroën +22,4
5. Ogier, Citroën +3.21,0
6. Raikkonen, Citroën +4.37,5
7. Villagra, Ford +5.10,1
8. Wilson, Ford +6.16,6

Tyre discussion

The big discussion this morning was tires. With mixed surfaces, both tarmac and gravel, it could be crucial if you don’t make the correct choice. Should we go for new tires or a couple of used?!?! Should we let the balls decide, or the brain?!?!
