Petter and Phil 5th overall in Rally de Portugal

Petter Solberg and Phil Mills ended 5th in Rally Portugal 2010. After 18 stages and three though days, Sebastien Ogier won the event with Sebastien Loeb second. Dani Sordo ended third and Hirvonen fourth.

- At the moment I’m really disappointed, admits Petter Solberg. – I was really hoping for a better result this weekend. But we had too many tyre-problems and with the steering-issue this morning I just lost too much time. In addition we had that incident inside the stadium, which also cost us seconds. But we have been on the same pace as the other drivers, so in general we are satisfied with the result. We will go home now and start preparing for the tarmac in Bulgaria, which will be an interesting rally – the C4 is a perfect car on tarmac, says Petter Solberg.

Petter and Phil started the day third, but a problem with the steering cost them a lot of seconds on the two first stages of the day. They also lost seconds, and the fourth place, on an incident on the last stage inside the Algarve Stadium.

Sebastien Loeb is still leading the championship with 126 points, and Petter Solberg is fifth with 63 points.

There will be a small break in the championship now; next event is Rally Bulgaria 9 – 11. July 2010.

Third when day 2 is finished in Portugal

Day 2 in Portugal is done, Petter and Phil has climbed on the overall classification and is now in third place. Sebastien Ogier is still leading the rally and Sebastien Loeb is second. Jari-Matti Latvala went off the road on the second stage of the day and had to retire.

- Just before the two final stages of the day everything were perfect, says Petter Solberg. – I was just seconds adrift of Loeb and the tyres were not so bad, but on SS12 one tyre just delaminated and then I had to push a little less to make sure we could make trough the rest of the day. 50 seconds behind Ogier and 30 seconds up to Loeb is a bit more than I wanted, but there is still 5 more stages to go tomorrow and we will not give up!

Tyre wear were the big issue on the second day here in Portugal. Because of the abrasiveness of the surface, it’s easy to pick up a puncture – or like Petter experienced, the tyre can just delaminate. With only one or two spares in the car, you need to be careful and constantly watch the condition of the tires.

Rally Portugal continues with 5 more stages on Sunday, and Petter Solberg will be car number three on the road. First stage starts 0648hrs (local time).

The first day here in Portugal is done, and Petter and Phil is fifth in the overall classification. Sebastien Ogier is leading the rally, and Loeb is second.

- I am quite happy with the day, even though I might be a little more behind than I was hoping for, says Petter Solberg. – I lost some time on the morning loop of stages because of a bent steering arm and a puncture. And I also had a puncture on the final stage of the day. But, I have a good start position for tomorrow and I know I can push a lot more than I did today.
