Rally Finland 2010 overall

- It has been a good rally, and though I am disappointed that I lost my podium, it has been good fun to drive this weekend and to fight with the big teams, says Petter Solberg. – I really tried to keep Loeb behind me, but I lost too much time on the stages that I didn’t drive last year. You need to experience them to be able to drive them fast. It has been a good close fight both days, the car was perfect and the stages and the atmosphere here fantastic, so – yes, it really has been a good weekend!

After two long days with rallying, Petter and Chris finished Rally Finland today in 4th place. Jari-Matti Latvala won, while Sebastien Ogier ended 2nd. At the end of the day, Sebastien Loeb managed to pass Petter Solberg in the overall classification and ended 3rd. Mikko Hirvonen and Henning Solberg both rolled on the first day, and were forced to retire. Kimi Raikkonen also went off the road yesterday, but managed to continue, but lost almost 9 minutes.

Petter Solberg won the first stage that was held on Thursday evening, and started the first proper day as the leader. He ended the first day in second position, and another stage win, just seconds behind Latvala. Today there was a close fight on almost all the stages for the third, between Petter and Loeb. At SS16 Loeb managed to pass Petter, and they ended up with only a 4 seconds gap between them.

The 4th place this weekend adds another 12 points for Petter in the Championship, and he is now 4th in the overall classification. Next event is Rally Germany, 20 – 22 August 2010.

If you manage to get a peak into our engineer’s computer, you will find a world full of information regarding our rally car. Most of it is not for “normal” people to understand, but there is some information we can actually understand. Like, on SS6 Lankamaa here in Finland, Petters average speed was 126 km/ph. Maximum speed were 189 km/ph. He never used the handbrake, and at one point he were flat out for 20 seconds. A total of 14,5 ltr of fuel were used on the 24,87km long stage. Petters time on the stage were 12.04,5.

Rally Finland day 1

Petter and Chris is second, when the first day here in Finland is completed. Jari-Matti Latvala is leading the rally, but only 9 seconds ahead of Petter. Sebstien Ogier is third, 21 seconds behind Latvala. Mikko Hirvonen rolled on SS4 and had to retire. Henning Solberg was also forced to retire after his car rolled on SS8.

- I’m very happy with the day, says Petter Solberg. – Second in the classification and fastest Citroën is actually better than I expected. I didn’t push too much today, it was much more important to stay on the road and not getting any punctures. I did loose some time at the Myhinpaa stage, as I didn’t do that stage last year, and it is a really tricky stage, but that was expected. I know I can be much faster, and will push a lot more on tomorrows stages, not only to keep the others behind, but will chase for Latvala also.

This years Rally Finland is held over just two days, and that means two very long days. A total of 147 kms and 10 stages are done today. The car were picked up at Parc Ferme at 0638 this morning, and not parked again before 2130. The rally ends with 8 stages and 162kms Saturday, and we will be at the servicepark from 5am.

Overall classification day 1
1. Latvala, Ford
2. Petter, Citroën +9,1
3. Ogier, Citroën +21,8
4. Loeb, Citroën +32,0
5. Sordo, Citroën +43,7
6. Wilson, Ford +2.35,3
7. Kankkunen, Ford +3.10,7
8. Raikkonen, Citroën +3.18,2

Rally leader at the media zone

- I am very happy with everything at the moment. The car works extremely well, we have the perfect weight balance. We can go faster but it is too early in the rally to push real hard. Will not risk anything, I’d rather drop a few seconds than picking up a puncture.
